Weekend Recommendations #26

This is a weekly feature, where I get to go all fannish about two randomly-picked favvies (which may not actually be favorites, but got a rating of 3 or higher) that I would recommend to friends! So, here are this week's two picks:

Author: Brandon Sanderson
Genre: steampunk/alternate reality/mystery
Part of a Series: Yes
Rating: 5 out of 5
Who'll Like It: Girls and guys alike will love this book, and it's appropriate for any age, though it might appeal to Readers fourteen and up more. Steampunkers and fans of mysteries, alternate reality, and original ideas will find this an ideal read.

Why I Like It:

Who ever knew that chalk drawings could be so awesome? And downright scary? I certainly didn't, until I read The Rithmatist. I wasn't sure what to think of this book before I started reading it, but this has to be this year's most favorite read so far. Original, unique, bizarre, entertaining, a thoroughly developed world, great characters - it has it all! I couldn't put this book down; it was just way too cool!!

Title: The Archived
Author: Victoria Schwab
Genre: supernatural/mystery
Part of a Series: Yes
Rating: 4 out of 5
Who'll Like It: Probably more of a girl read, but I would actually recommend this to a lot of my guy friends as well. They would enjoy the story's concept. Better for ages fifteen-and-up, Readers who enjoy original supernatural mysteries will love this.

Why I Like It:

If you don't know what this is about, go and look up the synopsis immediately (or better yet, follow the link to my review!). A library of dead people's memories - how can I not like that? It's so awesome! And Victoria Schwab is one of the few Authors who actually makes me like present tense narrations. I loved the story, I loved the characters, I loved the mystery, and I even rather liked the romantic aspect. I was surprised by several of the twists and I cannot wait for the sequel to come out!

  1. Both awesome reads! I really need to reread "The Archived" before the new book comes out in January.
