Stacking the Shelves #24

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Review

From the Library:

The Clockwork Scarab by Colleen Gleason
Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes never meant to get into the family business. But when you're the sister of Bram and the niece of Sherlock, vampire hunting and mystery solving are in your blood. And when two society girls go missing, there's no one more qualified to investigate.

Now fierce Evaline and logical Mina must resolve their rivalry, navigate the advances of not just one but three mysterious gentlemen, and solve murder with only one clue: a strange Egyptian scarab. The stakes are high. If Stoker and Holmes don't unravel why the belles of London society are in such danger, they'll become the next victims.

Fire Storm by Andrew Lane
Sherlock's captivating sidekick Virginia and her father have vanished. Their house looks as if nobody has ever lived in it; the neighbors claim never to have heard of them. Sherlock begins to doubt his sanity, until a clever clue points him to Scotland. Following that lead ensnares him in a tangle of mystery and deceit that involves kidnapping, body-snatchers, and a man who claims he can raise the dead. Only the nascent detective Sherlock can unravel the dangerous web that traps his friends.

"When Did You See Her Last?" by Lemony Snicket
Before you look any further into "When Did You See Her Last?" ask yourself these questions:

1. Has anyone seen the missing girl?
2. Why aren't her parents upset? They seem confused.
3. What do a chemistry experiment, a grocery store, unruly hair, and a stolen statue have to do with anything?
4. Now I'm confused. Why are you changing the subject? You're supposed to be thinking about the missing girl. Where is she?

The Book of Lost Things by Cynthia Voigt

Who is Mister Max? That boy on the squeaky old bicycle. The one with eyes so strange you have to look twice.

Is he an artist or an actor? A student? A spy? Is he a rather surly gardener, or an over-ambitious dog catcher? Some say he's a harried city official. Others claim he's just a little kid who's lost his parents.

Perhaps he is all of these things - or none of them.

One thing is certain: he is a master of disguise. And nobody - nobody - can solve a mystery like Mister Max.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

  1. You'll have to let me know how "The Clockwork Scarab" is. It sounds like it could either be really interesting, or really bad :P

    1. To err on the side of caution, I'm going to count on it being horrid. I just kind of get that feeling. But maybe not; we'll see.

    1. Thanks, B! :) I love the cover for THE CLOCKWORK SCARAB; I only hope the story is as good (I'm always dubious about Sherlockian fiction). But I look forward to reading these books - especially THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS and THE FAULT IN OUR STARS.
