Author Visit: Victoria Schwab, Lish McBride, Kendare Blake

All my beautiful books. From bottom to top: Anna Dressed in Blood;
Girl of Nightmares; Antigoddess; Hold Me Closer, Necromancer;
Necromancing the Stone; The Near Witch; The Archived;
The Unbound; Vicious

On February 15, 2014, authors Victoria Schwab, Lish McBride, and Kendare Blake came to Bellevue University of Washington Bookstore for a book signing! It was super, super, super awesome to meet all of them, even if I haven't read Lish McBride and Kendare Blake's books yet (they're on my shelf!). Stupid me, though - I forgot my camera and my recorder (I'm sorry, guys!). So, I guess you guys will just have to enjoy pictures of the swag I got - and the signed books!

Surprisingly, there was actually quite a bit of time to ask questions of the authors. Unfortunately, this was one of those times that I just didn't have many questions. All other Author events I've gone to, I've only been able to ask one or two questions, so this time I only prepped two questions. And when it came time for Q&A, I totally blanked. Even so, it was a lot of fun listening to the three go on some serious tangents. I learned that Victoria Schwab loves reading about serial killers, Kendare Blake has never seen Survivor (you're not missing out, Kendare!), and Lish McBride didn't start out writing Young Adult. At least, it wasn't her goal; it just sort of happened.

I got to tell Victoria Schwab how much I love her writing style; how she actually makes me like present tense. And Kendare Blake had visited The Reading Hedgehog that morning, and she asked after Hedgie! I was probably more delighted over that than anything else. Kendare Blake knew about my blog and wanted to know how my hedgehog was doing!! Okay, fangirl moment over. But seriously - that just totally made my night. Now I have to give her books a positive review! ;-)

But, without further ado, picture time!

Swag! A bookmark for The Unbound and The Archived (both signed);
a short Necromancing the Stone bookmark, a I Heart Sexy Gary sticker and bookmark.
Lish McBride promised I would get it once I read Book #2.

  1. Lucky! The books and swag looked awesome!

    Guess what? I just found out Victoria Schwab, A.C. Gaughen and Tiffany Schmidt are visiting a bookstore near me next month. Haven't read any of their books yet, but I think I can squeeze in The Archived and maybe Scarlet before then.

  2. That's awesome! They sound like really cool ladies, wish I could have gone. You'll have to let me know how the Necromancer books are. I've seen them around and thought they looked kind of funny.

    1. I've read snatches of Lish McBride's books just because I couldn't resist, and from what I've read, they're intensely strange, but hilarious in a sort of macabre way.
