This
is a weekly feature, where I get to go all fannish about two randomly-picked
favvies (which may not actually be favorites, but got a rating of 3 or more
strawberries) that I would recommend to friends!
Author: Robin LaFevers
Genre: historical fantasy
Part of a Series: His Fair Assassin
Rating: 3 out of 5
Who'll Like It: Girls and guys alike, though girls might like it more, as it focuses on the romance bit much. Fans of historical fantasy and fantasy will find this an enjoyable, though not short, read. Also, Readers who like female assassins.
Why I Liked It:
Book #2 - Dark Triumph - is actually my favorite in the trilogy. The protagonist is better and the book is shorter by several hundred pages. Grave Mercy is still good, though, minus the romance. The romance irritated me, and Ismae's inability to play her role convincingly was also annoying. But I enjoyed the concept, the historical details, and the hint of magic. And all of the characters were very interesting, even the unlikable ones. This is a trilogy that does get better as it goes along.
Title: Incarceron
Author: Catherine Fisher
Genre: dystopian/futuristic
Part of a Series: Incarceron Duology
Rating: 3 out of 5
Who'll Like It: Another book that girls and guys will enjoy equally. Fans of dystopian and futuristic/sci-fi will find this appealing - as will Readers who just enjoy something different from the run-of-the-mill dystopian novel.
Why I Liked It:
Incarceron is weird, but it's a weird I enjoyed. It was dystopian, but not really your typical dystopian. The world of the prison - Incarceron - was very intriguing, if a little difficult to picture. I also really liked all of the characters, even if Finn was a little clueless at times. The poor dude couldn't remember who he was - I don't suppose I can fault him too much.
