Waiting on Wednesday #63 + WWW Wednesday #33

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine.
It's a weekly meme about upcoming books we're excited about!

Beware the Wild
by Natalie C. Parker
Publication Date: October 21, 2014

From Goodreads:

It's an oppressively hot and sticky morning in June when Sterling and her brother, Phin, have an argument that compels him to run into the town swamp - the one that strikes fear in all the residents of Sticks, Louisiana. Phin doesn't return. Instead, a girl named Lenora May climbs out, and now Sterling is the only person in Sticks who remembers her brother ever existed.

Sterling needs to figure out what the swamp's done with her beloved brother and now Lenora May is connected to his disappearance - and loner boy Heath Durham might be the only one who can help her.

Why I'm Excited

It sounds super creepy and awesome and interesting! Yes, I highly suspect a romance between Sterling and Heath Durham - I haven't read YA all these years and not recognized hints when I see them. But it still sounds super awesome!

The Rogue Knight
(Five Kingdoms #2)
by Brandon Mull
Publication Date: November 18, 2014

From Goodreads;

Magic and danger abound in the second book in a series of "fanciful, action-packed adventure" (Publishers Weekly, starred review) from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Fablehaven and Beyonders series.

Cole Randolph never meant to come to The Outskirts, but when his friends were kidnapped on Halloween he had to try and save them. Now he's trapped in a world that lies between wakefulness and dreaming, reality and imagination, life and death.

Cole's hunt for his lost friends has led him to the kingdom of Elloweer. Accompanied by new friends Mira, Twitch, and Jace, Cole teams up with the resistance movement and joins the search for Mira's sister Honor.

But Elloweer has grown unstable. A mysterious enemy is wiping out towns, leaving no witnesses or survivors. And an infamous rebel known throughout the kingdom as the "Rogue Knight" is upsetting the balance of power.

With enemies in pursuit, Cole and Mira must resort to a fascinating new kind of magic to protect themselves. Every move is filled with danger as Cole and his friends try to outwit the High King, who will stop at nothing to regain what he has lost.

Why I'm Excited

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and I can't wait to see what happens next!

What are you currently reading?

They'll travel more than 238,000 miles from home. . . .

It's been decades since anyone set foot on the moon. Now three ordinary teenagers, the winners of NASA's unprecedented, worldwide lottery, are about to become toe first young people in space - and change their lives forever:

Mia, from Norway, hopes this will be her punk band's ticket to fame and fortune.

Midori believes it's her way out of her restrained life in Japan.

Antoine, from France, just wants to get as far away from his ex-girlfriend as possible.

It's the opportunity of a lifetime, but little do the teenagers know that something sinister is waiting for them on the desolate surface of the moon. And in the black vacuum of space. . . .

No one is coming to save them.

I am in such a reading funk right now, that I haven't gotten very far in this book (and I'm still reading The Universe Builders, too, BTW). But so far, it's rather interesting and promises to be spooky.

What have you recently read?

It begins, as the best superhero stories do, with a tragic accident that has unexpected consequences. The squirrel never saw the vacuum cleaner coming, but self-described cynic Flora Belle Buckman, who has read every issue of the comic book Terrible Things Can Happen To You!, is just the right person to step in and save him. What neither can predict is that Ulysses (the squirrel) has been born anew, with powers of strength, flight, and misspelled poetry - and that Flora will be changed too, as she discovers the possibility of hope and the promise of a capacious heart.

I gave this delightful new Kate DiCamillo novel 4/5 strawberries. It was odd, but hilarious and endearing and awesome. I loved it.

What do you plan on reading next?

For the teens at The Haven, the outside world, just beyond the towering stone wall that surrounds the premises, is a dangerous unknown. It has always been this way, ever since the hospital was established in the year 2020. But The Haven is more than just a hospital; it is their home. It is all they know. Everything is strictly monitored: education, exercise, food, and rest. The rules must be followed to keep the children healthy, to help control the Disease that has cast them as Terminals, the Disease that claims limbs and lungs - and memories.

But Shiloh is different; she remembers everything. Gideon is different, too. He dreams of a cure, of rebellion against the status quo. What if everything they've been told is a lie? What if The Haven is not the safe place it claims to be? And what will happen if Shiloh starts asking dangerous questions?

This is a relatively short read that I've been dying to get to. It sounds creepy enough to be an October read, and I can't wait to start it!
