Top Ten Tuesday #61 + Teaser Tuesday #22

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Another Tuesday! And this week's topic is: Top 10 Places Books Have Made Me Want to Visit. Fictional places included! But I think I have enough real places that I don't have to include fictional. So, let's get started! These aren't in any order because I don't feel like doing that. ;-)

  1. Dartmoor. I am a Sherlockian, ergo I have read The Hound of the Baskervilles and simply must visit the moor where it took place.
  2. Hadrian's Wall. I know, it's actually rather disappointing to see. Whatever impressiveness it once held is no longer in existence. But I still want to see it! It has been featured in more than one Rosemary Sutcliff book.
  3. Ostia. A port town in Italy, which actually served as the main port for Rome back in the day. Thanks to Caroline Lawrence's The Roman Mysteries series, I really want to see the town that the protagonists are from.
  4. Iceland. Thank you, Jules Verne; now I really want to visit this volcanic country.
  5. Historic London. As in the Old City section of London. Actually, I want to see all of London - it's all historical, really, if you think about it. But there's too many specific historical places in London I want to see, so this just kind of covers them all.
  6. Berlin. Due to the numerous novels I've read set in WWII. And on that note:
  7. Auschwitz. So maybe this list is just morphing into historical sites I want to see for their historical value. But I've also read novels dealing with Auschwitz, so it counts, right?
  8. Pennsylvania. When I was a tween, I loved my Revolutionary War novels (still do).
  9. Venice. Dying to visit the place of one of my favorite novels; The Thief Lord.
  10. The British Isles. I have read more books than I can count set in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Jersey Island - all those places. I am dying to visit the British Isles.

Mia was sitting in the infirmary with one arm around Antoine and one around Midori when Nadolski and Caitlin returned. She tried to make eye contact with Caitlin to get an idea of what was going on, but Caitlin looked away. Stared at the floor. Nadolski didn't look at the teens, either. He whispered something to Coleman and motioned to Caitlin to follow him. 172 Hours on the Moon by Johan Harstad (pg. 220)

  2. Love your list :)
There are some amazing places along Hadrian's Wall. Segedunum and Arbeia are pretty impressive with the reconstructions, but the parts in Northumberland and Cumbria are astonishingly beautiful.

    1. Sounds like you've been there before, Cora! So jealous! ;) One of these days I intend to do a tour of the Roman ruins; I'll definitely have to remember Segedunum and Arbeia.

    1. I plan to, Duncan. There's so much history - and ancestral ties. I'm hoping to be able to go in five or so years.

    1. I really want to see Florence and Milan, too. I will! And if you go to BookCon next year, we'll definitely have to plan on meeting up. Hazel and I will need a guide for the Strand. :)
