Top Ten Tuesday #25

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic: Top 10 New-To-Me Authors I Read in 2013. These will mostly be debut authors, as this year was mostly spent on finishing series and reading debuts.

  1. Tone Almhjell, author of The Twistrose Key. A Norwegian author, I have to say that I really, really enjoyed her debut novel. It was whimsical and fun and perfect for the holidays.
  2. Alexandra Bracken, author of The Darkest Minds. I enjoyed the dark aspect of her story and look forward to finishing out the trilogy.
  3. Teri Brown, author of Born of Illusion. I didn't have high expectations for this book, but it surprised me, and I look forward to reading more of Teri Brown's books.
  4. Gail Carriger, author of Etiquette & Espionage. I know a lot of people know her through her Parasol Protectorate series, but her YA Finishing School series is how I was first introduced to her writing. And I love it! Where have you been all my life, Gail Carriger? ;-)
  5. Marissa Meyer, author of Cinder. Most of you have heard the story of how it took me forever to sit down and read Cinder, because I thought the idea was too weird and couldn't possibly work. Early this year, though, I gave it a go and now The Lunar Chronicles is one of my absolute favorite series.
  6. Jane Nickerson, author of Strands of Bronze and Gold. Oh my gosh, one of the best fairytale retellings ever! So creepy and so well written! I loved it! Write more, Jane Nickerson!
  7. Morgan Rhodes, author of Falling Kingdoms. I am impatiently awaiting for when I can start reading Rebel Spring, because I love this trilogy! The characters, the world, the writing - it's just all so well done and epic.
  8. Brandon Sanderson, author of The Rithmatist. And a whole lot more books, but The Rithmatist is the first book of his I have ever read, and it's also his debut YA novel. I can see why he's so bloody popular; he's a good writer!
  9. Ruta Sepetys, author of Out of the Easy. A wonderful historical fiction writer, I loved both of her books, though her newest - Out of the Easy - is the one that first introduced me to her writing. I can't wait to see what she writes next.
  10. Cat Winters, author of In the Shadow of Blackbirds. Probably one of the most bizarre books of the year, it also made me fall in love with Cat Winters' writing. I still don't really know my whole opinion on the book; only that it isn't negative.

  1. I was the same with Marissa Meyer. I love fairytale retellings, but cyborgs and sci-fi really aren't my thing. Now I love the Lunar Chronicles. Great list!
