The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers
Jocelyn's twin brother Jack was the only family she had growing up in a world of foster homes - and now he's dead, and she has nothing. Then she gets a cryptic letter from "Jason December" - the code name her brother used when they were children at Seale House, a terrifying foster home that they believed had dark powers. Only one other person knows about Jason December: Noah, Jocelyn's childhood crush and their only real friend among the troubled children at Seale House.

But when Jocelyn returns to Seale House and the city where she last saw Noah, she gets more than she bargained for. Turns out the house's power weren't just a figment of a childish imagination. And someone is following Jocelyn. Is Jack still alive? And if he is, what kind of trouble is he in? The answer is revealed in a shocking twist that turns this story on its head and will send readers straight back to page 1 to read the book in a whole new light.

A Gathering of Wings by Kate Klimo
Malora leaves the safety of Mount Kheironin in search of Sky, the stallion who used to lead Malora's herd of horses. She travels with her closest friends through the wild and dangerous bush, and winds up in a city built on the ruins of Cairo - which is wild and dangerous in a different way. This journey sees Malora facing decisions that have the potential to turn her future around in a completely different direction. Whether she is choosing between a haven and an adventure, companionship or true love, Malora's struggles to discover what she really wants mirror the lives of contemporary teens, making this read as meaningful as it is entertaining.

The Eye of Minds by James Dashner
Michael is a gamer. And like most gamers, he almost spends more time on the VirtNet than in the actual world. The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and it's addictive. Thanks to technology, anyone with enough money can experience fantasy worlds, risk their life without the chance of death, or just hang around with Virt-friends. And the more hacking skills you have, the more fun. Why bother following the rules when most of them are dumb, anyway?

But some rules were made for a reason. Some technology is too dangerous to fool with. And recent reports claim that one gamer is going beyond what any gamer has done before: he's holding players hostage inside the VirtNet. The effects are horrific - the hostages have all been declared brain-dead. Yet the gamer's motives are a mystery.

The government knows that to catch a hacker, you need a hacker. And they've been watching Michael. They want him on their team.

But the risk is enormous. If he accepts their challenge, Michael will need to go off the VirtNet grid. There are back alleys and corners in the system human eyes have never seen and predators he can't even fathom - and there's the possibility that the line between game and reality will be blurred forever.

Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes
Auranos has fallen and the three kingdoms - Auranos, Limeros, and Paelsia - are now united as one country called Mytica. But still, magic beckons, and with it the chance to rule not just Mytica, but the world . . .

When the evil King Gaius announces that a road is to be built into the Forbidden Mountains, formally linking all of Mytica together, he sets off a chain of events that will forever change the face of this land, forcing Cleo the dethroned princess, Magnus the reluctant heir, Lucia the haunted sorceress, and Jonas the desperate rebel to take steps they never could have imagined.

"Who Could That Be at This Hour?" by Lemony Snicket
Before you consider reading "Who Could That Be at This Hour?" ask yourself these questions:

Are you curious about what is happening in a seaside town that is no longer by the sea?

Do you want to know more about a stolen item that wasn't stolen at all?

Do you really think that's any of your business? Why? What kind of person are you? Are you sure?

Who is that standing behind you?

  1. I just bought Falling Kingdom's when it was on sale and I love the cover of Rebel Spring. Goodreads keeps reccomending me The Vanishing Game-I'm looking forward to your review because I keep going back and forth on whether it is something I would enjoy or not.
