Top Ten Tuesday #17

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic: Top 10 Character Names I Love. This was, again, an easy one, setting aside the fact that it was difficult to pick just ten! It was also a struggle to not take them all from Charles Dickens, but he has such wonderful character names!

  1. Mr. Sparkler from Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens. Not only do I love his character, but his name just cracks me up!
  2. Mr. Turvydrop from Bleak House by Charles Dickens. Yet another hilarious name - and a hilarious character. I really don't know how he came up with them.
  3. Sophia from Courtship & Curses by Marissa Doyle. Sophia has always been a favorite name of mine, and I always love protagonists with it.
  4. Halt from the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan. It's really amazing how much that that name really captures Halt's personality.
  5. Dustfinger from the Inkworld Trilogy by Cornelia Funke. Need more be said? It's just awesome!
  6. Yann from The Red Necklace Sally Gardner.
  7. Galen from Princess of the Midnight Ball Jessica Day George. Not only do I absolutely love that name, but the character is way awesome. Major character crush here, people! :-)
  8. Yassen Gregorovich by the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz. So Russian, so awesome, and just . . . well, awesome.
  9. Roland by the Pagan Chronicles by Catherine Jinks. I feel sorry for Roland's character - immensely - and I love his name.
  10. Sherlock Holmes. Perhaps my all-time favorite character name, to be honest. As a Sherlockian, it's a must.

  1. Love those picks! I never fell in love with Funke's books, but I did love Dustfinger as a character name. So evocative, could mean so many things...

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. The very first time I read INKHEART, I didn't love it, either. But when I read INKDEATH, something happened and it's now one of my favorite trilogies. And of course, Dustfinger is just awesome. :)

    1. Thanks, Kelley! :-) It's funny to think that when I first read RANGER'S APPRENTICE I didn't like Halt, but now he's my favorite.

    1. :-) I usually do, too. Though I don't know how I could forget Sybella from DARK TRIUMPH. That's like my ultimate new favorite name.

  4. This would be way too hard for me, though I might have to try it sometime ;)
